The A League season is set to explode when it kicks off on Friday October 6th with the FFA scheduling several blockbusters at the best stadiums in the first three rounds. We’ve got you covered by looking into the big “can’t miss” five games of the opening rounds that will setup the season. Add these to the diary now!
Round 1, Friday Oct 6 – Melbourne City FC v Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park
The biggest name in the A-League, Tim Cahill, will be missing as for City as the Socceroos will require his services for a World Cup qualifier the night before against Syria. Brisbane will unveil highly rated Peter Skapetis, the Aussie returning from Stoke City.
Round 1, Saturday Oct 7 – Melbourne Victory v Sydney FC at Etihad Stadium
The Grand Final rematch lands at Etihad Stadium on the Saturday night and we can expect fireworks as the Victory seek a little bit of redemption after losing the final in penalties in May after a 1-1 draw.
Round 2, Saturday 14 October – Melbourne Victory v Melbourne FC at Etihad Stadium
The first Melbourne derby of the year is always one of the most hotly contested and this is sure to be no different. Expect a packed house at Etihad.
Round 3, Friday 20 October – Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory at Adelaide Oval
Football comes alive in Adelaide at the mighty Adelaide Oval, one of the great sporting stadiums in Australia. It will be a huge event in this city so expect fireworks.
Round 3, Saturday 21 October – Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers FC at Alliance Stadium
The rivalry in the Melbourne derby is only matched by the one in Sydney! Graham Arnold will be keen to get momentum rolling early in the season for FC while Tony Popovic has to reset the Wanderers after an underwhelming 16/17 season.
