04 Jun Harper has "no confidence at all" in Van Marwijk
Fox Sports football expert Andy Harper says he isn’t confident that Bert van Marwijk can achieve the Socceroos’ World Cup objectives due to having such minimal preperation for the tourament.
Van Marwijk was appointed as Australia’s coach in January and has had limited time to implement his tactics and overall philosophy.
When asked whether he was confident that the Dutchman could extract the very best out of the Socceroos' squad, Harper wasn't overly optimistic.
“I have no confidence at all,” he told SEN Afternoons.
“I’ve got confidence in the players and a measure of confidence in the coach but that is yet to really be tested.
“I’ve got a lot of confidence in Australia’s sporting history and what it means to represent Australia and that the guys will do a fantastic job.
“We can all feel confident in that but what we don’t know, and it’s impossible to be confident in something that we don’t know, is how the team is going to perform and how it’s going to be structured under Van Marwijk.
“The match tomorrow night against the Czech Republic will be the first time we can judge him on his merits.
“The first two games against Norway and Colombia were scratch matches off nothing – it was impossible to draw any form line through it at all.”
Australia’s first World Cup match is against France on the 16th of June.
