APIA Leichhardt stalwart hails his side’s resilience after Victory boilover

APIA Leichhardt stalwart Franco Parisi believes his side thoroughly deserved to beat reigning A-League champions Melbourne Victory in last night’s Round of 16 FFA Cup match at Leichhardt Oval.

The NPL club based in Sydney’s west pulled off the greatest upset in Cup history, recording a stunning 3-2 win over the Victory to send shockwaves through the competition.

Parisi says it’s a night that will live long in the memory for both himself and the entire club.

“It was one of those memorable experiences, not just from a sporting point of view but from a life perspective,” Parisi told SEN Afternoons.

“It was something we worked hard towards, we really wanted it and when you see the game you understand the performance that we put in.

“We really deserved it and that’s what’s going to make the memories live longer because it was a real team-effort and everything we wanted to achieve, we did.

“I’m sure everyone that followed the game last night will remember it for a long time.

"As any sport and any team game the fundamentals have to be adhered to, we need to be disciplined, we need to work hard as a team and we needed to stay compact in defence and we did all of that.

“What the beauty of our team is we are always good for goals and we said before the game: ‘look, we aren’t sure how this is going to go, but we will score some goals.’

“We really lifted to bounce back and say: ‘well it’s only 2-2, we’re still very much in this game’, then we found that third goal and that’s the moment we knew we aren’t letting this lead up a second time.”
