Could Arsene Wenger replace nemesis Jose Mourinho at Man Utd?

Fox Sports football commentator Simon Hill has suggested that former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could be the ideal man to potentially replace under-fire Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is under increasing pressure to keep his job after United’s dreadful start to the new Premier League season, losing two of their first three matches, including a 3-0 home drubbing at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

Hill believes Frenchman Wenger would bring some much needed grace and calmness to the role as things at Old Trafford continue to unravel under the Portuguese.

“I just feel that maybe they need somebody who’s going to be a little bit calmer and try and steer the ship,” Hill told SEN Afternoons.

“Here’s an outside bet and I’m sure a lot of Manchester United fans would be saying no chance…but what about Arsene Wenger?

“Wouldn’t he be an interesting choice?

“I’m serious, because I’m not talking about for the next 10 years but I think he would be the sort of person that would restore a bit of the dignity to the role at Manchester United.

“I think at the moment, amidst all this maelstrom, perhaps that is something of what they need.”

Wenger and Mourinho have a fractured relationship after years of public spats and touchline flashpoints.

Reports have emerged that a defeat to lowly Burnley on Sunday could spell the end of Mourinho’s turbulent tenure as United boss.
