Melbourne Derby showed bad sign of VAR: Ansell

Melbourne Victory defender Nick Ansell says the weekend’s Melbourne Derby displayed the “bad” side of the VAR.

Melbourne City were given a controversial penalty in their 2-1 win over Victory, which has once again caused outrage amongst fans and experts about the VAR system.

Ansell has explained his disappointment in the decision, saying it came at a vital moment in the match.

“From what I’ve seen, I thought it wasn’t a foul,” Ansell told SEN Breakfast.

“Obviously it was a big talking point on the weekend. From our point of view, I guess it’s pretty disappointing that it was called a penalty.

“I guess there is not much you can do now, I mean we just have to move onto next week.

“It was very disappointing at the time and at the stage of the game it happened, it probably did change a few things going into halftime.

“I think it has its good and bad things that come with it. On the weekend you saw the bad things that comes with it.”

Ansell said his trust level in the VAR system is “probably 50/50” after the weekend’s events.
