24 Oct Victory CEO outlines what will justify Honda success
Melbourne Victory CEO Trent Jacobs has explained the factors that will be used to determine if Keisuke Honda’s stint with the club will be a success.
Honda is one of the biggest names the A-League has seen, with Jacobs answering “yes” when asking if winning a championship and attracting crowds will be used to grade his Victory career.
However, there are a host of other markers the club will use to analyse Honda’s time in Melbourne.

“I think it’s going to be about what he brings to us in terms of media reach and interest, and that’s not just domestically, that’s obviously internationally as well,” Jacobs told SEN’s Whateley.
“He has an incredibly large audience internationally, having played in Italy, Russia and obviously he is a homegrown Japanese player.
“Our ability to grow our brand and also grow interest in the club and what we’re doing on a week-to-week basis internationally is another measure.
“I think bringing new people to the game and new people to our club is going to be another measure.
“Even in the background, our commercial grunt in terms of who we bring into the club from a sponsorship perspective, a hospitality perspective, all of these things are measures that we will look back on at the end of the year and say, was it successful?
“He is the biggest marquee player that we’ve probably brought to the club in our short 14-year history.”
