03 Dec Modric snaps Messi, Ronaldo dominance to win Ballon d'Or
Croatian midfielder Luka Modric has won the Ballon d'Or as the world’s best player for 2018 ahead of Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and French World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann.
It’s the first time a player other than Ronaldo or Argentinian phenomenon Lionel Messi has won the prestigious award since 2008.

Modric had a superb year for both club and country, leading Spanish giants Real Madrid to their third straight Champions League crown and orchestrating Croatia’s stunning run to their first ever World Cup final appearance.
The 33-year-old won a swag of individual awards including UEFA Men’s Best Player, Best FIFA Men’s Player, World Cup Golden Ball, FIFPro World XI and UCL Team of the Season.
