17 Jan “The team put it on him”: Barbarouses responds to internal query
Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has revealed Kosta Barbarouses was challenged internally by the squad before netting a hat-trick against Brisbane Roar on Tuesday night.
Barbarouses had failed to score in his previous five appearances before his treble in the Victory’s 5-0 rout over the Roar, taking his goal tally to seven for the campaign.
Muscat paid tribute to the winger’s emphatic response after being urged by his teammates to lead by example.
“Certainly since I’ve been in the job he’s been as consistent as anyone. I suppose that’s the biggest compliment you can pay him,” Muscat told SEN Afternoons.
“The team put it on him the other day – the team asked him to contribute things that he wasn’t involved in during the game on the weekend, asking him to lead the way, lead from the front for us, continue making forward runs and giving his teammates energy.

“He certainly accepted that responsibility and also executed it.”
Next up for the reigning champions is a clash against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday night at AAMI Park, as they look to stay in touch with league leaders Perth Glory.
