De Laet explains mechanics behind historic A-League goal

Ritchie de Laet has explained his thought process behind his historic A-League goal in Melbourne City’s 4-3 win over Western Sydney last night.

De Laet opened the scoring for City within 31 seconds, which is the fastest goal in A-League history.

The Belgian says he simply took a risk that paid off in the ultimate way.

“I just seen the ball skit through and he (the Wanderers defender) was facing his own goal with pressure from behind with Riley (McGree),” de Laet told SEN’s KB and The Doc.

“He only had two options, he was either going to kick it out or go back to the goalkeeper.
