Manchester City’s hopes of defending their title have taken a major hit after they were stunned 2-1 by Newcastle at St James’ Park.
Pep Guardiola’s men missed the opportunity to cut Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League to just one point and could face a seven-point deficit if the Reds beat Leicester City at Anfield tomorrow morning AEDT.
It was massive result for the Magpies who sit just one point above the relegation zone.
Sergio Aguero gave the Sky Blues an early lead before a Salomon Rondon equaliser and a late Matt Ritchie penalty sealed the unlikeliest of wins for Rafael Benitez’s side.

Benitez, who managed Liverpool between 2004-2010, did his former a club a huge favour in their quest to win their first league title since 1990.
City are aiming to become the first team since 2009 to defend the Premier League title.
