30 Jan “I’ve got great ambitions”: Muscat eyes Socceroos coaching job
Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat has revealed his ambition to coach the Socceroos in the future.
Muscat replaced Ange Postecoglou as the Victory’s manager in October 2013 and has gone on to win two A-League championships, one Premiers Plate and an FFA Cup in 2015.
Current Socceroos boss Graham Arnold has been linked with a move to Scottish club Hibernian after only being appointed as the national team coach in March last year.
“I’ve got great ambitions,” Muscat told SEN’s KB and The Doc.
“Just like the players and the younger ones that come here that I tell to reach for the stars and have great ambitions, I certainly have as well.”
While the Socceroos top job remains a long-term goal for Muscat, he remains focused on delivering more silverware for the Victory this season.
“I do know one thing: if you look too far ahead, you end up tripping up and not seeing something,” he added.
"The greatest achievement for me was representing my country as a player, so why wouldn’t you want to do it as a coach?
“I don’t see why anyone would say that they wouldn’t want to do it, when that time is right, who knows?
"I’m very comfortable and grateful to be in the position here at the Melbourne Victory competing for trophies again this season.”
The former Socceroos midfielder won 46 caps between 1994-2006.
Muscat’s Victory sit second on the A-League ladder, four points behind league leaders Perth Glory.
