Has Melbourne Victory signing Ola Toivonen flown under the radar?

Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas believes the signing of striker Ola Toivonen went under the radar amid the hype surrounding the arrival of Keisuke Honda.

After missing the start of the season through injury, the Swedish marksman has been on fire since his return, netting 10 goals in 13 appearances for the Victory.

Speaking on SEN Afternoons, Thomas can’t wait to see Toivonen link up with Honda once the Japanese playmaker returns to full fitness.

“I think so,” Thomas said when asked about the signing of Toivonen.

“Keisuke (Honda) took a lot of that limelight, I think he’s getting a lot of it back with his performances.

“It will be interesting to see when they’re both on the field and they’re both doing special things – he’s been outstanding.

“He had the little injury at the start of the season which was disappointing.

“But the last five-six-seven weeks, any chance he gets in front of goal he takes, and that’s what a top striker does.”

The Victory face league leaders Perth Glory in a blockbuster encounter this Sunday at AAMI Park.
