Honda not ruled out for Glory clash: Muscat

Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat hasn’t ruled out a return for star Keisuke Honda in this weekend’s top of the table clash against Perth Glory.

Honda hasn’t played since mid December due to injury, but is inching closer to a return, with the 32-year-old a chance to play on Sunday afternoon.

“At this stage, he is not ruled out,” Muscat told SEN Breakfast.

“Previously at this point I’ve been saying the reality is it’s unlikely, but at this point, he has joined in.

“He is training with the team, he is really eager to get back and contribute and help his teammates.”

Glory sit on top of the A-League ladder, four points ahead of second-placed Victory, and Muscat is anticipating the competition’s two pacesetters to put on a high scoring affair.

“We have been scoring goals, the way we play naturally is going to gravitate to earning a lot of chances,” he said.

“We have been taking quite a few. I know we have scored the most goals in the competition and Perth have scored the second most goals.

“Hopefully it’ll be a bit of a shootout and it will be a great afternoon of football.”
