Body of Emiliano Sala found in plane wreckage

A body recovered from the wreckage of a plane found in the English Channel is confirmed to be that of missing Cardiff City footballer Emiliano Sala.

Sala went missing on January 21st after a flight he was travelling on from French city Nantes to Cardiff crashed off the coast of Guernsey.

Dorset Police confirmed the identification of the 28-year-old on Thursday night.

“The body brought to Portland Port today, Thursday 7 February 2019, has been formally identified by HM Coroner for Dorset as that of professional footballer Emiliano Sala,” read a statement.

"The families of Mr Sala and the pilot David Ibbotson have been updated with this news and will continue to be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers."

The Argentine was travelling back to the Welsh capital to link up with his new teammates after sealing his £15million move to the Premier League club from Ligue 1 outfit Nantes.

The body of the pilot, David Ibbotson, has yet to be discovered.
