11 Feb WATCH | Man City hit Chelsea for six in record defeat
Manchester City has returned to the top of the Premier League courtesy of a 6-0 mauling of Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium overnight.
The six-goal thrashing was the Blues’ worst loss in 28 years and has heaped further pressure on under-pressure boss Maurizio Sarri.
Pep Guardiola’s men were imperious as they raced to a 4-0 half-time lead thanks to a brace from Sergio Aguero and goals from Raheem Sterling and İlkay Gündoğan.
Aguero completed his second consecutive hat-trick from the penalty spot in the second half before Sterling put the exclamation mark on a stunning display from the Sky Blues.
City now sit above Liverpool on goal difference but the Reds still have a game in hand over the reigning champions.
Chelsea now languish in sixth behind Manchester United and Arsenal in the race for a top-four finish.
