01 Mar WATCH | Matildas give new boss Milicic the perfect start

Goals from Emily Gielnik and Hayley Raso helped the Matildas secure a comfortable 2-0 win over New Zealand in their Cup of Nations opener at Leichhardt Oval.

Australia cruised to victory to give Ante Milicic the perfect start in his first game in charge following the sacking of Alen Stajcic.

Gielnik opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time before Raso sealed the points just three minutes into her comeback match after six months on the sidelines.

Next up for the Matildas is a clash with Asian counterparts South Korea in Brisbane on Sunday night.

The Women’s World Cup gets underway in France on June 7 with Australia up against Italy, Brazil and Jamaica in Group C.
