17 Mar WATCH | Central Coast secures remarkable win in F3 derby
Alen Stajcic’s tenure at Central Coast has began on a high, with the Mariners taking home a 3-2 win over Newcastle on Saturday night.
All five goals were scored in the second half, with the VAR playing its part in handing the Mariners the win.
In the 94th minute, the Jets were awarded a penalty after Roy O’Donovan was fouled in the box.
Central Coast goalkeeper Ben Kennedy initially saved the O’Donovan strike, but Daniel Georgievski made it count on the rebound.
In the 97th minute, the VAR review concluded that Georgievski ran into the box while O’Donovan was running up to take his kick, prompting a re-take.
Two minutes later, O’Donovan retook his kick, but it was Kennedy who won the game for the Mariners, saving the penalty kick in the dying minutes.
