18 Mar WATCH | Ryan shines in shootout as Brighton reach FA Cup semi-finals
Socceroos goalkeeper Maty Ryan has helped Brighton & Hove Albion beat Millwall 5-4 on penalties to reach the FA Cup semi-finals.
The Premier League club was staring down the barrel of a shock exit after second-half goals from Alex Pearce and Aiden O'Brien put the Lions on the brink of victory in front of their delirious home fans at the Den.
Brighton then staged a remarkable comeback when substitutes Jurgen Locadia and Solly March netted in the 88th and 95th minutes respectively to send the tie into extra-time.
With neither side able to find a winner, Ryan came into his own in the resulting shootout, saving Mahlon Romeo’s spot-kick before Jake Cooper skied his over the bar to send the
Seagulls into the final four for the first time since 1983.
Chris Houghton’s side will face reigning Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on the weekend of April 6-7.
Brighton have never won the FA Cup in their 117-year history.
