18 Mar Former A-League star jailed for dealing ice
Former A-League star Adrian Caceres has been jailed for 18 months after he was found guilty of dealing methamphetamine.
Caceres, 37, appeared in the District Court of Western Australia after being charged with possessing methamphetamine with the intent to sell or supply.
The winger was found with 11 grams of ice in Perth in August 2017 and later admitted to using the drug from the age of 21 until 35.
“The quantity of the drugs, the number of clip seal bags … indicate to me on the face of it, that your client is a low-level user-dealer for reward,” Judge Simon Stone said during sentencing.
“Methamphetamine causes a significant amount of misery. Not only to the addicts but to the family of the addicts and to the community. Because it is so crime related.
“Most of the crimes that come before this court, most of the offending that comes before this court, is related to methamphetamine use, or illicit substances, in one way or another.”
Caceres was part of Melbourne Victory’s championship-premiership double squad in 2007 and also had stints with Perth Glory, Central Coast Mariners and Wellington Phoenix.
The Argentine-born Australian will be eligible for release in September.
