Round 27 A-League preview

Round 27 of the A-League is upon us with some fascinating fixtures to look forward to in what should be another action-packed weekend of football.

Here’s a preview of this weekend’s A-League matches:

Melbourne City v Central Coast Mariners
Friday April 26th, AAMI Park, 7:50pm AEST

Melbourne City host last-placed Central Coast to kick-start the final round of the A-League season.

City’s top four hopes were ended with a 3-2 loss to Wellington while the Mariners defeated Western Sydney 3-1 to notch just their third win for the entire season.

Warren Joyce’s side will look for a positive result to take into the first week of the finals.

Tip: Melbourne City 3 Central Coast Mariners 1

Newcastle Jets v Sydney FC
Saturday April 27th, McDonald Jones Stadium, 5:35pm AEST

Newcastle Jets host Sydney FC in their final game of the campaign.

The Jets hammered Brisbane 6-1 last time out while the Sky Blues continued their impressive form with a 1-0 win over Premiers Perth Glory.

Sydney coach Steve Corica could rest some key players as they continue to juggle their Asian Champions League commitments.

Western Sydney Wanderers v Melbourne Victory
Saturday April 27th, Central Coast Stadium, 7:50pm AEST

Melbourne Victory will look to end their season on a high when they take on Western Sydney Wanderers.

The Victory went down to Adelaide 1-0 last week and would want a significant improvement if they’re to defend their title.

Markus Babbel’s side have won just one of their last seven home games against the reigning champions.

Perth Glory v Wellington Phoenix
Sunday April 28th, HPF Park, 5:00pm AEST

Perth Glory face an in-form Wellington Phoenix side in what should be an entertaining encounter.

After clinching the Premiers Plate, the Glory will look to turn on the style in front of their home fans before their semi-final clash in a fortnight’s time.

Tony Popovic’s men have won each of their last four home games against the Phoenix.
