Liverpool pulls off miracle comeback at Anfield

Liverpool has stunned Barcelona in front of the Anfield faithful to storm into the Champions League Final.

The Reds completed a phenomenal comeback from 3-0 down after the first leg to defeat Lionel Messi’s Barcelona 4-0, handing them a 4-3 aggregate win.

Making the victory even more remarkable, the Reds were without star forwards Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino due to injury.

Former England captain Alan Shearer told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I have never seen anything like this before. I’ve played at Anfield when there is a superb atmosphere but this is something else, something special.”

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen told BT Sport: “It’s up there with the best, if not the best (European nights at Anfield). Liverpool are virtually unbeatable at this stadium in Europe.”

Divock Origi breathed some life into the tie when he scored on seven minutes.

Former Liverpool star Luis Suarez injured Andy Robertson, leaving the Scot to be replaced by Georginio Wijnaldum, who, incredibly, scored twice within three minutes soon after the half-time break to level the tie.

Origi sent the home fans into raptures in the 79th minute when he turned home Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner.

Barca threw everything at the Reds in the final minutes, but Jurgen Klopp’s men hung on, sending them to Madrid, where they will face either Tottenham or Ajax in the Champions League final.

“Unbelievable. I don’t think many people gave us a chance. We knew it would be difficult but still possible,” Reds captain Jordan Henderson, said.

“The belief we have in the changing room is amazing. We knew we could do something special at Anfield. Look at the fans and the lads – this is a special night. This is up there with the best.”
