08 May Former Socceroos striker joins Western United
Western United have completed the signing of former Socceroos striker Scott McDonald ahead of their inaugural A-League campaign.
McDonald, 35, joins the league’s newcomers from Scottish second-tier side Partick Thistle after coming out of retirement seven months ago.
He scored seven goals in 13 appearances to help the club secure a sixth-placed finish after they were languishing in last position before he signed.
McDonald enjoyed prolific stints with Celtic, Middlesbrough and two spells with Motherwell in a distinguished 20-year career.
He also won 26 caps for the Socceroos between 2006-2012 but failed to find the net in that time.
McDonald joins marquee man Panagiotis Kone, Socceroos defender Josh Risdon and Turkish international Ersan Gulum as the club’s major acquisitions before entering the A-League next season.
