14 May Report: UEFA seeking ban on Manchester City from Champions League
UEFA investigators are seeking to ban Manchester City from participating in next season’s UEFA Champions League, according to The New York Times.
The report claims the recently crowned Premier League champions have been investigated over its financial conduct amid alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play rules.
It also states that City misled financial regulators, leading UEFA to its recommendation of a ban from Europe’s top club competition.
Accusations of City’s financial irregularities intensified earlier this year via a Football Leaks report, accusing them and Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain of fraud to avoid Financial Fair Play sanctions.
The Premier League giants are owned by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan – the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates.
Pep Guardiola's side secured back-to-back league titles with a 4-1 win over Brighton on the final day of the Premier League season.
