11 Jun Defending champions create history at Women's World Cup
The United States have recorded the biggest ever victory at the FIFA Women's World Cup with a 13-0 thrashing of Thailand in front of close to 20,000 fans in Reims.
The 2015 champions took a 3-0 lead into half-time, before going on a scoring rampage in the final 45 minutes, which included four goals in just six minutes.
Alex Morgan was the chief destroyer with five goals, tying a team record, while Rose Lavelle and Samantha Mewis both bagged a brace. Lindsey Horan, Megan Rapinoe, Mallory Pugh and Carli Lloyd also found the back of the net.
Morgan signalled her intent pre-game via Instagram: "A journey within the journey starts today. All the work, the tears, the love, the successes and failures, are for this. I’m ready and it’s thanks to my family, who will be in the stands today and at home watching, beaming with the same pride and excitement I feel."
In case you missed one or two goals (which would be understandable because you know, 13‼️) we’ve got some highlights.

The US is the top-ranked side in the world, while Thailand sits at 34.
The result bettered the United States' 7-0 win over Chinese Taipei at the 1991 World Cup and Germany's 11-0 drubbing of Argentina in 2007.
