13 Oct Berisha strikes as Western United win inaugural A-League match
Western United is off to a dream start in its augural A-League season, beating Wellington Phoenix 1-0 at Westpac Stadium.
A first-half strike from Besart Berisha was enough for United to seal all three points and become the fifth club to win its first A-League fixture.
Berisha netted his 117th goal in Australia when he fired home in the 34th minute after latching onto a cross from Socceroo Josh Risdon.
The result is extra sweet for United coach Mark Rudan who got the better of his former club at the first time of asking.
Western United’s next assignment is last year's premiers Perth Glory in the club’s first home fixture next Saturday at 5pm AEST.
