Former EPL boss entrusted in reviving A-League

Former Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore has joined the A-League in an advisory role.

Scudamore will work with all 11 A-League clubs and competition chief Greg O’Rourke in a bid to revive the league.

The EPL’s huge financial growth is down to Scudamore’s business acumen with the league’s revenues rising from £148million ($280m) in the 1997 to £3.2billion ($6bn) in 2019.

“I am obviously delighted to be involved at such an important and exciting time for the professional game in Australia," Scudamore said in a statement released by APFCA.

"The strategic planning that has taken place is impressive and I believe I can very much help build on that work.

"The Australian game has so much potential for growth and global resonance. There is clearly the necessary commitment from the Clubs to realise that potential as quickly as possible.”

The A-League will soon be an independent body once Football Federation Australia relinquishes control to the 11 clubs.
