20 Oct “Stupidity”: Mooy sees red for first time in Brighton’s late EPL loss
Socceroos midfielder Aaron Mooy saw red for the first time in his career as Brighton & Hove Albion fell to a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
Mooy was sent off in the 35th minute after receiving two yellow cards in the space of five minutes with Brighton up 1-0 at Villa Park.
Jack Grealish later equalised for the home side before Matt Targett scored a 94th-minute winner to snatch the three points in dramatic circumstances.
Former Socceroos defender Luke Wilkshire says Mooy’s moment of madness cost the Seagulls dearly.
“It wouldn’t have gone down well with his manager,” Wilkshire told Optus Sport.
“A silly first yellow card and then to go make a challenge that he did… it’s just stupidity.”
Brighton sit 16th in the Premier League on nine points, just one point above the relegation zone.
