Muscat sees positives despite Victory’s winless start

Melbourne Victory remain winless after the opening two rounds of the A-League season.

It’s been a slow start under new coach Marco Kurz with a 0-0 bore draw against Melbourne City followed by a 2-1 home defeat to Western Sydney Wanderers.

An improved second half display against the Wanderers is a cause for optimism moving forward, according to former Victory coach Kevin Muscat.

“It is early. What I will say is Victory at the moment have had a couple of injuries … a couple of influential figures,” Muscat told SEN’s Bob and Andy.

“Robbie Kruse will make a huge difference to that team in an attacking sense going forward.

“For me, there were some clear signs in the second half when Victory were 2-0 down and they lifted a notch, actually played some really good stuff and wrestled back the ascendency.

“You could see there were signs in whilst Victory were 2-0 down that they put the foot down and started to attack and became a more fluent team.”

Melbourne Victory go in search of their first win of the campaign against Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
