Kerr set to depart W-League, drops major hint on next move

Matildas star Sam Kerr is set to depart the W-League for a move to Europe.

Kerr is seeking a new challenge with English club Chelsea and European champions Lyon tabling offers for the in-demand 26-year-old.

The Perth Glory and Chicago Red Stars striker gave the biggest indication yet that a move to London would be her preferred destination.

"Speaking to a few of the coaches at the clubs I thought I would go to, it’s a really professional environment, they have huge clubs backing behind them,” Kerr told reporters on Friday.

“It’s just a different world to America or Australia.

"There are so many different leagues, there’s the FA Cup, there’s the Continental Cup, the Champions League, so you’re playing 50 games a year with your club which is unusual for us Australians."

Kerr says her next move should be finalised within the next week.

"There is still a little bit to go through but it’s an exciting time for me,” Kerr said.

"It’s going to be a new challenge, a new experience but I think it will only better me as a footballer.

"I am really looking forward to finally being able to share it with everyone because it has been a long process for me. It has been a few years in the making this decision.

"I think in the next week or so I will be able to make a decision."

Kerr is gearing up for the Matildas’ match against Chile at Bankwest Stadium on Sunday.
