16 Dec Report: Arsenal and Everton closing in on new managers
Mikel Arteta has emerged as the leading candidate to become Arsenal’s next manager.
Multiple reports indicate Spaniard Arteta is the man likely to replace Unai Emery in charge at the Emirates after the former Gunners midfielder met club representatives on Sunday night.
Managing director Vinai Venkatesham and club lawyer Huss Fahmy were spotted leaving Arteta’s house following a two-hour sit down that has heightened speculation that an announcement could be imminent.
Arteta moved into management after announcing his retirement in 2016, working as an assistant coach at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.
The 37-year-old made 150 Premier League appearances for the Gunners and captained the club before calling time on his professional career.
Everton are also closing in on a managerial appointment with Carlo Ancelotti reportedly agreeing a deal in principle with the Merseysiders.
Ancelotti was sacked by Napoli last week but looms as Marco Silva’s replacement following his dismissal earlier this month.
Arsenal and Everton meet at Goodison Park on Saturday night (AEST).
