17 Feb A-League’s youngest goalscorer expected to follow brother in choosing Australia

Adelaide United teenager Mohamed Toure made waves on Friday night when became the youngest goalscorer in A-League history.

Toure, 15, netted his maiden A-League strike in just his second appearance for the Reds to seal a 2-0 win over the Central Coast Mariners at Coopers Stadium.

Like Mohamed, older brother Al Hassan Toure also burst onto the scene when he scored five goals in Adelaide's triumphant FFA Cup campaign last year and netted on his A-League debut two weeks prior.

The 19-year-old pledged his allegiance to Australia and Herald Sun football reporter David Davutovic expects Mohamed to follow suit.

They are eligible to represent Australia, Guinea and Liberia at national level.

“It’s always a difficult assessment,” Davutovic told SEN's Dwayne’s World.

“The fact that his brother has chosen to play for Australia is a massive tick. The boys are both born in Guinea, but Liberia is their parent’s nationality and that’s who they have really strong ties too.

“We saw Al Hassan Toure holding the Liberian flag above his shoulders after Adelaide United won the FFA Cup last November so there was certainly a strong pull there, and the Liberian coach and officials have been in touch.

“We suspect that Mohamed (Toure) will follow in the footsteps of his older brother Al Hassan and I certainly know that he is on the radar of Australia’s youth team coaches and was even before the goal and even before he made his A-League debut last week.”
