06 Apr “It was that bad": Viduka opens up on Kewell feud at Leeds

Mark Viduka has opened up on his frosty relationship with Harry Kewell during their time together at Leeds United.

Viduka, who was also teammates with Kewell at international level with the Socceroos, says they would barely make eye contact inside the Leeds dressing room.

Speaking to ESPN in a wide-ranging interview, the former striker feels his falling out with agent Bernie Mandic – who went on to represent Kewell – played a part in their feud.

"At Leeds, it got to the point, if Harry and I were in the sheds by ourselves, we wouldn't even look at each other. It was that bad,” Viduka said.

"I had a problem with Bernie Mandic (Kewell's agent). Bernie was my agent when he took me from Celtic to Leeds, but … I severed ties with Bernie.

"I think maybe our relationship at Leeds wasn't that good because, and I can't say for sure, I think that affected the way (Kewell) viewed me."

The Socceroos greats last spoke in 2013 but Viduka says their relationship has improved since their days at Elland Road.

Viduka’s 22 goals in his debut season fired Leeds into the Premier League top four and Champions League semi-finals.

He joined the West Yorkshire club from Celtic for £6 million in the European summer of 2000.
